2011 Rules
General Rules
- Sled not responsible for any accident.
- This is a garden tractor pull. No motorcycle, snowmobile or automotive engines etc. Pull promoter will decide whether a tractor will be allowed to pull. The pull promoter has the right to reject any tractor from pulling.
- All drivers will sign a waiver of liability.
- There will be a Driver’s meeting before each pull. All drivers are required to attend.
- Only the drivers and a minimal pit crew will be allowed in the pit area.
- Spectators, curious by-standers, non-participating shop talkers, etc. ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE PIT OR TRACK AREA.
- There will be no super tuning except in the pit area.
- New pullers and tractor builders please read all these rules and if you have any questions contact us. If you show up with something that doesn’t fit the rules or raises safety concerns, you may not be allowed to pull. See rule two (#2) above.
Contestant Rules
- Each driver will operate his/her tractor in a safe manner and in such a manner as to be in full control at all times, both in and out of the pit area.
- Drivers must be old enough and physically able to operate the tractor solo. Governor tractors may have a parent or guardian walk down the side of the track with them in case of an emergency. On all altered tractors driver must be able to operate and control the tractor by themselves.
- Drivers must have at least one hand on the steering wheel at ALL TIMES.
- Drivers must keep both feet on the footrests.
- Drivers must remain in contact with the seat at all times.
- Drivers must stop immediately when the red flag drops.
- Drivers will be allowed to lean forward or backward and side to side to make adjustments.
- No one other than the driver will ride on any pulling tractor when it is moving, whether being towed or driven.
- All pulls must start from a tight chain
Contest Rules
- A puller may have more than one tractor in the same class.
- Two minutes maximum time will be allowed to hook to the sled. If a breakdown cannot be fixed in the allotted time, the tractor may drop to last position..
- False start is 60 feet from the starting point. Any tractor attempting to stop before the 60 ft . mark may retry ONE time. (Flagman will make the finial decision).
- If a tractor comes down “in bounds” that tractor is not disqualified.
- When weighing, the driver must be sitting on the seat.
- If the sled operator brakes the tractor, the pull is measured at that point.
- There will be one flag person. Their decision is FINAL.
- Tractors will be allowed one pull per class with a maximum of 2 pulls per event with the following exceptions. Classes or number of hooks may be reduced depending on tractor turnout. Either of these exceptions would be announced at the end of signup.
- Signup will start one and one half (1 1/2) hours before event start time and will run up until one half (1/2) hour before event start. There will be NO LATE SIGNUPS! It is imperative that these events start on time and the people doing the signup have things to do before the event begins. Having signup end thirty (30) minutes before the event start will also allow decisions to be made about the previous rule (#9).
- 1Each tractor will weigh and have their hitch measured as they line up to hook onto the sled. Weight tolerance is zero (0) pounds. Hitch height tolerance is zero (0) inches. You will not be allowed to hook to the sled if your weight or hitch is over. Be prepared to add or subtract weight and adjust your hitch. Tractors may not leave the line up after they have been cleared to hook.
- Pull ends when forward motion of sled stops or goes out gate.
Safety Rules
- All tractors are required to have a switch that will kill engine and fuel pump in case of chain or hitch breakage. The switch will be located within range of six (6”) either side of center of back of tractor with a minimum of a 1.5” circle. Comment: Make sure it has an adequate size ring in order to ease connecting to sled.
- All tractors must have a deadman throttle, being closed in rearmost position. Throttle must return to idle position incase of an emergency. Comment: Factory throttle may be used but must return when let go of.
- On all open RPM tractors a minimum one (1) pound dry chemical fire extinguisher or equivalent. Comment: A gauge on the fire extinguisher is required. They can either be dry chemical or CO/2-type extinguisher. The fire extinguisher must be full.
- All exhaust must discharge vertically and be securely attached. No more than 10 degrees out of straight upward allowed.
- All tractors must have safety device to prevent turnovers. This device is to have wheels or skid plates. Wheels are to be at least 1” wide and 5” in diameter. Skid plates to have at least 3 square inches at ground contact point. Wheels or skid plates must be no less than 5” behind the rear tires and not more than 5” above the ground. This device must be able to support the weight of the tractor. Comment: the tolerance on height is + 1/4” (5 1/4”) and behind tires – 1/4” (4 3/4”) All open RPM tractors must have a vertical bump bar in the rear most position of the wheelie bar with a minimum of 6” to prevent sled from hitting back of tractors
- All tractors to be equipped with workable brakes.
- All tractors will have a fuel shut-off between the tank and engine.
- All tractor fuel lines must be kept away from hot engine components.
- All tractors will have a battery restraint device that safely keeps battery in place.
- Any tractor running any kind of pulley on the pto end of the crankshaft must have a bolt and washer in place to prevent the pulley from coming off the end of the crank should it come loose. Pulleys on open rpm tractors must be billet steel or billet aluminum, no pressed steel or cast iron pulleys allowed on open rpm tractors.
- Fenders: Fenders must extend a minimum of 4” in width and must cover the front of tire to its furthest point forward. It is recommended that the foot step be connected to front of fender to avoid your foot being pulled in by the tire.
- ALL open RPM single cylinder engines must have a scatter shield opposite the cam side of the motor, it must be of 1/8” steel or 3/16” aluminum. It must cover full height and width of block and be attached in a secure manner to frame and head or head plate.
- ALL open RPM tractors are required to have the flywheel, clutch, and all rotating
components shielded with a minimum of 1/8” steel or 3/16” aluminum. - 1All governor tractors must have flywheel covered and not visible from the out side of the tractor. Factory side shields, factory engine covers and the use of the frame rails are acceptable. All clutch’s, belts, pulleys and open rotating parts must be shielded and covered.
- All open RPM tractors are to have a driveshaft loop located in the middle of the drive line.
- All drivers must wear closed toe shoes and are recommended to wear long pants and long sleeves. All open RPM tractors must wear a full fire suit and a helmet meeting Snell 95 safety ratings.
- Missouri River Pulling Tech official reserves the right to implement rule changes for safety and heath reasons at any time.
Chassis
- Open to two-wheel drive, rubber tired tractors, no dual wheels, chains or spikes. TIRES MUST BE NO LARGER THAN 26X12X12 FOR ALL TRACTORS.
Tires.
Governor Tractors – May run any 26-12-12 factory ag bar style tires available. Tires may be cut in any fashion. No double cutting and no adding bars. Tire must have factory 26-12-12 markings on the side
Open RPM Tractors – May run any 26-12-12 tires available. Tire must have factory 26-12-12 markings on the side. - All tractors must have at least a 3” seat back on all seats. Seat back must be rigid enough not to flex down excessively when leaned upon. 45 degree angle max
- Drawbar will be horizontal and stationary in all directions. With hitching device not more than 3/4” in thickness and must have a 1 1/2” width/depth for hook. Pulling point may not be more than 3/4” from back edge of hitching device parallel to and not more than 13” above the ground. Comment: Pulling hitch should be made of steel.
- No portion of any tractor may exceed 6 feet in width. No portion of any tractor may exceed 8 feet forward of the center of the rear wheel, including weights Comment: No tolerance on the overall length.
- Hood and Grill must be in place on all garden tractors.
- Weights must be stationary of all movement.
- No narrow front end tractors. All tractors must be wide front end.
- All mower decks, loaders, or other hang-on accessories must be removed
- No nitrous oxide, nitrous methane, or equivalent oxygen enriched fuels or additives allowed. No propane or any pressurized fuel tanks allowed.
